Thirsting of the Soul

Have you ever watched deer enjoying refreshing streams of water? Living creatures in the animal kingdom experience a compelling yearning for water driven by their thirst. But humans, who are also part of God's creation, are also familiar with this yearning for water.

Water satisfies and hits the spot. It brings life to our tired bodies and revives us. Without water, we die!

Deep inside our beings, we have an emptiness that thirsts for fulfillment. Many people seek to quench that thirst with things that cannot truly satisfy. This is evidenced as they keep returning to the broken jars of pleasure, addictions, and entertainment.

Those things leave us thirsting once again in no time. In John 4:13–14, Jesus said, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again."

The emptiness and longing we have within us can only be satisfied by our Creator. Each of us has been separated from Him because of sin-we have chosen our own paths that go against His will. When you choose to seek Him with all your heart and drink in the pure water of His Word, you will receive satisfaction for your soul. But you must come to Him by faith to drink!

God's Son, Jesus Christ, came to the world to give us the spiritual life that we need. Without a relationship with Him, we remain separated from God, lost, and seeking to satisfy ourselves.

God loves you and gave His life on the cross so that you can have new life, and forgiveness. The Lord Jesus said, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water'" (John 7:37–38).

"Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the [person] who trusts in him" (Psalm 34:8, NKJV).
