Now and then you run across some lines in an old song that just kind of hit you. As a songwriter, I hear a good one and tend to take notice of the way words are put together.

I stumbled on an old 1972 Tom T. Hall song the other day that just kept cycling through my head and I couldn't get it out of my mind! So, I googled it and saved the words.

It was a song about a person's relationship with God, aptly titled "Me and Jesus." In the third verse, the musician talks about Jesus bringing him through all his troubles, trials, and heartaches. The musician adds that he knows Jesus won't forsake him now.

It reminded me of a verse in Isaiah 43:2:

"When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you. . . . "

This scripture doesn't say that God will shield us from troubled waters, but that He'll be with us through them. Time after time, that truth comes through in everyday life situations. The storms and rough water we face can get pretty scary at times, but the Lord holds our hand and like that old country song says, Jesus will bring us through all of our troubles.

It's so good to have that kind of connection with our Creator!
