Weather experts in Manitoba told us that we just had the snowiest December in a century. When the snowstorms passed, there was a beautiful array of winter scenery everywhere we went; hoarfrost on the trees, houses were blanketed in white and took on a majestic, fresh appearance. In the flat fields,  white oceans appeared that sparkled when the sun shone on it! 

The snow seemed to clean up the yards and the streets, and clean paths of white now covered the ground where walking paths of dirt used to be. Of course, after the weather calmed down, we were all trying to get the snow pushed out of the way. People wanted to get on with their lives and not be hindered by the white stuff that surrounded them.

In this part of Canada, with the snow comes a new way of life for the next several months. We need to shovel our driveways, plug our cars in, warm them up in the mornings, slow down on the roads and generally walk carefully, lest we slip on the ice and fall. If we don’t respect the snow and acknowledge its power, we can end up in a lot of trouble!

The snow is a great reminder of the purity of Jesus Christ and of His presence. God’s Word says, “Can anyone hide from Me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the LORD (Jeremiah 23:24). Speaking of Jesus’ purity, the Bible also says, “In Him is no sin, yet He became guilty for ours and bore our judgment at the cross (Second Corinthians 5:21).

Sadly, people in the world want to push Christ out of the way just like they shovel their snow! They want to get on with their lives, oblivious of the fact that He is in control and that they are accountable to Him!

The presence of God’s Word in a life will cause people to either embrace the beauty of the Lord and His ways, or an individual can choose to reject the only One who can clean their sinful heart and make life new (Isaiah 55:10-11).

Who is Jesus Christ to you? Is He the Creator who holds the store houses of snow (Job 38:22)? The Bible says that by Him all things were created (Colossians 1:16-20). The snowflake and the trillions upon trillions of snowflakes that fall every winter are designed by Him and controlled by Him! Do you not think that such a powerful God can take care of you? (Matthew 11:28)

If you don’t have peace and understand that you are guilty before a holy God, and that you have not walked a clean path, there is still hope. Snow is a wonderful picture of God’s love because it covers all and makes everything clean.

God loves you! Forgiveness is available and God can grant you a clean slate based on what Jesus did for you at the cross!

Just as there needs to be a change of attitude and habits when the snow comes every winter, so we must think differently about God and be willing to repent, acknowledging His supreme authority and our serious disobedience. You must be willing to turn to God and go His way instead of our own. Without repentance, God cannot forgive and without forgiveness, trouble will be our portion in this life and torment in the next (Romans 6:23).

If you are ready to come to Jesus and trust Him as your Savior, as the only one who can forgive you and make you ready to meet God; go to Him now by faith. Believe He took your punishment when He died on the cross (Acts 16:31).

When Jesus Christ is yours, He will give you the ability to walk a new, clean path; free from the control of sin (Second Corinthians 5:17). “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool” (Isaiah 1:18).
