Edna Nabess shows off the pair of baby moccasins she made in her shop, Cree-ations in Winnipeg, for Britain’s newest prince, Prince George Alexander Louis.

WINNIPEG, MB—Among the many gifts that the new prince will receive will be a pair of baby moccasins sewn especially for Prince George Alexander Louis by Winnipeg’s Edna Nabess. Also, his parents, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Katherine, received a pair of mukluks.

The tiny traditional moccasins were sent to Windsor Castle by Assembly of First Nations Grand Chief Shawn Atleo.

“Definitely it’s a big deal,” Nabess told the Winnipeg Free Press. “I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Nabess creates her traditional leather footwear from her store on Main Street called Cree-ations. The moccasins for Prince George were stitched together and beaded by hand. She used deer hide because it’s much softer than moose or cow hide.

The mukluks are made of moose hide with beaver fur for the lining. They sell for about $600.

Nabess’ work is known around the world and her creations have gone to such places as Serbia, Australia, Belgium and Scotland.
