Which way do you roll?

I spend the majority of my time pushing a cart which holds a laptop and a projector. Time is of the essence as I roll from class to class having meetings and seeking to be on schedule. A couple of weeks ago I was pretty miffed at the wheel on my cart, it definitely wasn’t cooperating! When I wanted to push ahead, it would not budge and if I did get it to budge it would swerve to the left or to the right. I needed to be careful since I was carrying expensive equipment but at the same time I felt like I was wasting precious minutes. I used all the strength that I had to steer it in the right direction. Even then I wasn’t successful. I was exhausted! The problem was that the wheel had broken away from a brace which had given the cart stability to roll in the right direction.

The whole experience reminded me of the old nature within. It never wants to go God’s way; its only desire is to please itself.

God wants to steer us in His direction but we put up a fight, He wants us to know His salvation and roll His way, but we are sidetracked and often times mesmerized by what the world offers. The pleasure of sin only lasts for a while, as we veer to the left or to the right and usually end up in some type of vicious circle in which we become caught. Just as I didn’t have the strength to make my cart go in the right direction, neither do any of us have the power to live in a way that pleases God without Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

God’s Word says, “we are without strength” and that we are “ungodly” (Romans 5:6, 8). Nothing we do can ever change our position before God, unless we receive a new nature (John 1:12).

My cart needed a new wheel in order to have stability and be able to function for the purpose it was made. Thus God’s Word says you need to be born again through repentance and faith in Christ so that you can have His power in your life to live for Him (John 3:3).

Do you desire to keep struggling with life on your own, facing eventual punishment from a Holy God? He surely does not desire for anyone to be lost, far from God in their sins (Second Peter 3:9). Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners

(1 Timothy 1:15)! Because Christ shed His innocent blood at the cross, your guilty soul and life can be saved! When you choose to roll His way, He guarantees a safe arrival in Heaven and He promises to guide you with His gentle hand through this life.

You are valuable to God, far more valuable than the cargo I carry on my cart! You have a never dying soul that will live forever either with or without God (John 3:36). Strive to enter into His gate, don’t let anything deter you from God’s salvation and His security. The quality of your life now and your eternity is in the balance. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. He says, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
