As we celebrate this wondrous time of year, it’s very important to contemplate the fact that God became a human being (John 1:14). This was God’s will, and Jesus Christ gave Himself completely to His Father’s will, always (John 4:34).

Yes, the Savior of the world took upon Himself the likeness of human flesh, but do we have an inkling of an idea what this stoop really cost Him? I dare say, it will take all of eternity to wrap our minds around the fact that He left the splendors of Heaven, knowing His destiny.

The place where He was worshiped by myriad angels and heavenly beings, where sin and its ugly consequences can never penetrate (but rather the light of God radiates, so that no other light is needed (Revelation 22:5), was deserted by the King of Heaven. The only one who is worthy to sit at His Father’s right hand, left His gloriously perfect Heavenly home, so that He could become the sacrifice for us, we who as His creatures, chose to rebel against Him. They hated him, mocked Him, spit on Him and planned to kill Him, even while He first began His public ministry. They and “we” chose to nail Him to a cross as He looked upon them in complete innocence and with complete love.

“We”? Yes, “we”. While we were yet sinners, while we continued to disobey and remain enemies of God until the moment of salvation, were guilty of His death, simply because we rejected Him and chose to serve sin (Romans 5:8).

Some who are reading this, may still be guilty of rejecting Him. If you haven’t had a moment of salvation, when you recognized your sinfulness before a perfect God who has perfect standards, I urge you do so even now (Acts 16:31).

Yes, Christ came as a baby who lay in a manger, born to a virgin but He is no longer a baby. He lived a perfect life, speaking the very words of God, compelling people through His miracles and words to trust Him alone, for the forgiveness of sins (John 8:46-59).

He became the sacrifice and finished the work God gave Him to do, because His innocent soul was made an offering for our sin (Isaiah 53). Praise God that He rose again victorious, defeating sin and death (John 12:31-33)!

You will meet Jesus Christ, the second this life is over. Will you meet Him as your Savior or as your judge? This Christmas consider the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ gave Himself for you. He left everything for you and became cursed for you. What kind of love is this?

It’s amazing that He is willing to make any person a child of God, when they believe in His name (John 1:12)! As sinful and guilty as we are, He can take our shame and every single sin and separate them from Himself, as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12).

When I am in Heaven, it will take all of eternity for me to wrap my mind around the fact that He gave Himself for me. What about you? What will you do with Jesus this Christmas season (John 3:36)?
