Ross Maracle died from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was not only a leader and warrior for his people but also a loving husband, father and grandfather.
DESORONTO, ON—Early in the morning on August 22, 2012, we lost a great leader, warrior, motivator and organizer. Ross Maracle, 66, died from injuries sustained in a car accident in Upstate New York.
He was known across Canada and many parts of the United States as the host of Spirit Alive TV program. He was also founder and president of the National Native Bible College for almost 20 years.
A member of the Mohawk First Nation, Ross was also dedicated to Native young people with a drive to “discover new trails,” acting as the founder and director of Ohahahse Camp for Youth.
When hearing of the news of the emergency situation in Attawapiskat, Maracle initiated a Compassionate Outreach Program and an airlift was organized to immediately supply items needed to help the community.
Ross was not only a leader and warrior for his people but he was also a loving and devoted husband, a caring compassionate and loving father of three, grandfather of 11 grandchildren, and great grandfather of two.
Ross was the son of Andrew and Lillian Maracle. He is survived by his wife, Linda Maracle and the families of their children, Rachel and Bryan Volkmann, Rebecca and Eric Aschmann and Ross and Shayna Maracle II. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Brant Maracle, Clifford and Yolanda Maracle, Thomas and Alison Maracle, Jonathan and Linda Maracle and David and Kimberly Maracle.
In his downtime, Ross’s main focus was seeking ways to make Linda fall in love with him over and over through 45 years of marriage and always sought ways to bring family and friends together.
Ross had a zest for life and always pushed for excellence. He was one who followed Jesus faithfully and desired that others know Him too.
